Report details review of airline's Respect in the workplace policy and practices
CALGARY, Aug. 18, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, WestJet announced it has released EY's executive report on the airline's current reporting procedures as well as practices for a safe and harassment-free work environment for its employees. The report can be downloaded on the WestJet blog.
EY's report includes five recommendations:
- Update and fully implement the respect in the workplace (RITW) policy and practices
- Design and deliver formal RITW communication, education and training to all WestJet employees
- Increase accountability of the People Relations team for the application of the policy including regular reporting of policy compliance and RITW performance metrics to the WestJet Board
- Formalize data capture and document management processes
- Increase accessibility to RITW policies, guidance and resources
A four-phased approach has been developed to prioritize implementation actions. The four phases include an initial policy update, a drive for RITW awareness, training and application of the updated policy, and continuous monitoring and improvement.
"We engaged EY to provide an independent, third-party assessment of our policies and practices around respect in the workplace and we welcome the recommendations in this report," said Gregg Saretsky, WestJet President and CEO. "We are fully committed to implementing the recommendations and in fact, have already started to do so. There is always room for improvement and we look forward to following the path laid out in this report."
Due to ongoing legal proceedings WestJet will not provide further comment.
