WestJet's up! magazine nominated for three Western Magazine Awards
CALGARY, Aug. 9 /CNW/ - RedPoint Media Group's up! magazine - WestJet Airlines' inflight publication - has received three 2010 Western Magazine Award nominations.
Winners of the Western Magazine Awards will be announced on October 15, 2010, at a gala event in Vancouver. The Western Magazine Awards celebrate the best in magazine publishing in Western Canada; for the past 28 years, the awards have honoured excellence in writing, photography, illustration and art direction.
Former up! magazine art director, Robert Biron, is nominated in the best art direction of an article category for his work on "Surf & the City," which appeared in the March 2009 issue of up! magazine. The magazine is also recognized with two nominations in the best illustration or illustration feature category. Juno-nominated Calgary musician and artist Chad Van Gaalen is nominated for his hometown art in the June 2009 feature titled "A Concrete Dreamer's Guide to Calgary." Illustrator Roger Xavier's vivid, striking portrayal of hand-held food in the October 2009 "Menu a Mano" feature is also a finalist in the same category.
"As a source of travel inspiration for WestJet guests, up! prides itself on being a visually engaging read," said Tom Gierasimczuk, up! magazine editor and RedPoint editorial director. "We feature some of the country's best illustrators and photographers, to say nothing of our talented art directors, so this recognition is a true honour."
