SOCHI, Russia, March 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Highlights on day two in Sochi included visually-impaired skier Mac Marcoux (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and guide Robin Fémy (Mont-Tremblant, Que.) winning their second bronze medal in as many days, racing in the super-G, while teammate Caleb Brousseau (Terrace, B.C.) took bronze in the super-G men's sitting division, winning his first ever Paralympic medal. The sledge hockey and wheelchair curling teams also both posted wins today.
What Canada Did on Sunday at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games:
PARA-ALPINE SKIING
Caleb Brousseau and Mac Marcoux (guided by Robin Fémy) were the top-placing Canadians, each winning a bronze medal in the men's super-G. Brousseau (Terrace, B.C.) won bronze in the men's sitting division in a time of one minute, 22.05 seconds. Marcoux (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), with guide Fémy (Mont-Tremblant, Que.), won bronze in the men's visually-impaired category with a time of 1:20.77. Kurt Oatway (Calgary, Alberta) was 9th in the men's sitting division with a time of 1:29.10, and Kirk Schornstein (Spruce Grove, Alta.) was 13th in the men's standing category with a time of 1:27.83. Sitting skier Josh Dueck (Kimberley, B.C.), and standing skiers Matt Hallat (Coquitlam, B.C.) and Braydon Luscombe (Duncan, B.C.) did not finish their runs. Next up is Monday's women's super-G, which will feature standing skiers Alexandra Starker and Alana Ramsay, both of Calgary, Alta., and Erin Latimer, from Etobicoke, Ont.
PARA-NORDIC SKIING
Chris Klebl (Canmore, Alta.) was the top Canuck, placing sixth in the men's 15-kilometre sit-ski race with a time of 43:06.9. Quebec City's Sebastien Fortier was 18h at 51:43.3. Yves Bourque (Becancour, Que.) was 20th at 55:25.4. Colette Bourgonje (Saskatoon) was the lone Canadian in the women's 12-kilometre sit ski race and finished 13h with a time of 45:50.3. The para-Nordic events continue on Monday in Sochi with the men's and women's long distance standing and visually impaired cross-country ski races featuring 10-time Paralympic medallist, Brian McKeever.
SLEDGE HOCKEY
Canada's sledge team moved to 2-0 in the tournament after a 4-0 win over Norway. Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) led the way with a pair of goals, while Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) picked up the shutout for Canada which will next face the Czech Republic Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in Sochi.
WHEELCHAIR CURLING
Wheelchair Curling - Canada defeated Sweden 7-4 and now sits 3-0 in round robin play. Tomorrow they take on USA (1-2) at 10:30 a.m. and Norway (1-2) at 15:30 p.m.
PARA-SNOWBOARD
The para-snowboard team continues to train and prepare for their race day, which is Friday, March 14.
