An inspiring group of educators will answer this question at a groundbreaking workshop hosted by the Canadian Education Association (CEA)
TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - Over three hundred delegates from across Canada will be gathering in Calgary on Oct 21-22 to identify the barriers that prevent change from taking hold in Canadian public education.
The growing workshop attendee list includes representatives from seven ministries of education and 12 faculties of education, as well as the participation of influential pan-Canadian education organizations such as the Council of Ministers of Education Canada, and the Canadian Teachers' Federation along with several of its provincial affiliates. Also included are directors of education from 15 cities, as well as impressive contingents of teachers, principals, and francophone educators who will be sharing their crucial viewpoints.
Founded in 1891, CEA is a network of passionate educators advancing ideas for greater student and teacher engagement in public education. Throughout its history, CEA has consistently served an important role as pan-Canadian convener of education leaders, and our key workshop question - What's standing in the way of change in education? - has clearly struck a chord.
"With so many diverse viewpoints working together to collectively identify the barriers and long-held assumptions about learning and teaching that prevent changes from taking hold in our public education system, this will not be your typical workshop", says CEA President and CEO Ron Canuel. "This is about checking your political agendas and affiliations at the door, working hard, and thinking differently."
Alberta's education sector is also well represented at this event by Alberta Education, Alberta Teachers' Association, Alberta School Boards Association, the College of Alberta School Superintendents, the University of Calgary, and 13 Alberta school divisions, including both the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.
Alberta's Minister of Education, the Right Honourable Jeff Johnson, will be delivering opening remarks to conference delegates at 8:50am on Monday October 21 at Calgary's BMO Centre.
