TORONTO, Jan. 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Many young Canadians may not typically associate one of Canada's largest banks as a contemporary and dynamic place to work. But, CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) is changing those perceptions and has been named one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People for the fourth consecutive year.
"This award recognizes CIBC's success in recruiting and retaining the very best of Canada's young professionals," says Aayaz Pira, Vice-President of Digital Channels at CIBC. "We know that investing in our younger team members is the key to building a stronger Canadian economy. Through mentorship and networking while assisting our employees build diverse career portfolios, CIBC is committed to helping the nation's youth prosper."
Mediacorp Canada Inc.'s Canada's Top Employers for Young People is an annual competition to find the nation's leading companies who attract and support young professionals. The editors of Mediacorp evaluate companies based on their provided programs that engage younger employees, like tuition assistance and paid internship programs, mentorship and training programs, and career development programs for advancement within the organization.
In a time of economic uncertainty, CIBC believes it has never been more important to provide Canada's youth with the proper resources and support to become the next generation of leaders and innovators.
CIBC offers a variety of development programs for current students and recent graduates across the bank, including the Graduates Matter Rotational Program, the Commercial Banking Associate Program, the Technology Leadership Associate Program and the Human Resources Development Program. In particular, Mediacorp singled out the bank's GenNext@CIBC program which is designed to give younger employees opportunities to develop their leadership skills through various community engagement initiatives.
As well, CIBC taps into the expertise of young people to stay on the forefront of digital banking. Last year, CIBC partnered with MaRs Discovery District to establish an innovation lab, where a small team of co-op students and developers helped the bank create the CIBC Apple Watch Banking App.
CIBC is also proud to be recognized as:
