In its 6th annual and biggest-ever Newsmakers issue, Maclean's magazine looks at the year's winners and whiners, heroes and heartbreakers, sinners and saints - on newsstands now
TORONTO, Dec. 6 /CNW/ - While Maclean's recently named Olympian Sidney Crosby its Newsmaker of the Year, there were plenty of other colourful personalities making news in 2010.
The Vancouver Olympics not only brought great pride to Canadians but also spawned some unforgettable newsmakers, including skater Joannie Rochette, who won a medal despite losing her mother suddenly; pairs skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir; Alexandre Bilodeau and his biggest fan, brother Frédéric; skeleton racer Jon Montgomery; and the women's and men's hockey teams.
There was also the rise of Glee (and Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester), Justin Bieber and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford; the arrival of British Prime Minister David Cameron and the election of Dilma Rousseff, Brazil's first female president; and the exits of Michaëlle Jean, Simon Cowell, Lloyd Robertson and Cathy cartoons. There was the dramatic rescue of the Chilean miners, the many setbacks of Barack Obama, the comeback of Conrad Black—and the triumphant return of Betty White.
While Maclean's biggest-ever Newsmakers issue looks back at these people and the events that surrounded them, the 140-page perfect-bound issue also showcases hundreds of other political pratfalls, celebrity shenanigans and memorable moments. It's a funny and irreverent romp through 2010.
