Women in the insurance industry share why they Relay
TORONTO, May 31, 2017 /CNW/ - The Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) is excited to support the Canadian Cancer Society's 2017 Relay For Life on June 16.
Hundreds of insurance professionals from across Toronto will join WICC at this uplifting fundraising event. Each participant has a personal reason for Relaying, as these delegates from the insurance industry share.
"I Relay to be part of the many communities that support finding a cure for cancer," said Ellen Moore, WICC co-chair, and regional executive officer, Canadian Chubb Companies. "WICC Ontario has established an ability to connect the insurance industry with our colleagues, friends and families who suffer from this terrible disease."
"I'm Relaying for Connie Riga, a senior underwriter at Northbridge Insurance who spent the past year in a battle against cancer – and won. Connie is a survivor and I'm excited to walk the track with her," said Shari Dodsworth, WICC Chair, Relay For Life, and senior vice president, sales and distribution, Northbridge Insurance.
"I Relay for Evelyn, my grand-niece, a spunky, high-energy toddler who was left partially paralyzed by a cancerous tumour wrapped around her spine. She is my inspiration," said Donna Ince, senior vice-president, personal insurance, RSA Canada.
"Ten years ago this spring, my mother died an awful death from lung cancer," said Kim Donaldson, vice-president, Ontario, Insurance Bureau of Canada. "For me, the Relay is my way of helping others avoid such an awful experience. I want to help the Canadian Cancer Society work toward a cure."
"I keep coming back to Relay For Life because it's such an inspiring event with fundraising success, uplifting stories and positivity all around. It's a wonderful balance between the seriousness of the disease and our hope for a better future," said Carrie Brown, director, sales and client service, Intact Financial Corporation.
In its ninth year of supporting Relay For Life, WICC shows no signs of slowing down as it plans to surpass the $470,000 it raised in 2016. The proceeds help researchers discover life-saving treatments, and allow the Canadian Cancer Society to offer support programs to those living with cancer and to their families.
Accept the baton! Relay For Life will be at Downsview Park on June 16 from 6 p.m. to midnight. To register a team or participate in Relay For Life events, visit www.relayforlife.ca or call 1-866-201-6202.
