TORONTO, Oct. 29, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's own Andrew Wiggins is one of college basketball's top prospects, and he takes centre stage on TSN this season as the network delivers complete coverage of every Kansas Jayhawks game - all the way to NCAA® MARCH MADNESS®.
Canadian hoops fans can follow Wiggins and his nationally-ranked Kansas Jayhawks every week throughout the regular season, beginning on Friday, Nov. 8. The majority of games will air live with some having same-day coverage on TSN platforms (see below for November broadcast schedule, and visit TSN.ca for the full broadcast schedule as it becomes available).
"As the top prospect in basketball and now a Sports Illustrated cover star, the excitement surrounding Andrew Wiggins is soaring," said Shawn Redmond, Vice-President of Programming, TSN. "We are thrilled to bring Andrew to Canadian fans as he takes flight in the NCAA, the place where the next generation of NBA greats make their debut on the national stage."
"There are many Canadian basketball fans who can't wait to watch Andrew and follow the Jayhawks this season," said Bill Self, head coach, University of Kansas Men's Basketball team. "When we have played in Canada in the pre-season, a lot of KU fans have come to see us play. Now they can watch all our games on TSN, which will be great exposure for Kansas basketball."
The action tips off with Wiggins' first regular season game, as the Jayhawks take on the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. TSN2 will air the game on Friday, Nov. 8 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The schedule heats up with a clash of perennial powerhouses, as the Jayhawks square off against the Duke Blue Devils as part of the ESPN Champions Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 9:30 p.m. ET on TSN2.
Along with TSN's complete regular season coverage, SPORTSCENTRE reporter Jermain Franklin will be on site at the University of Kansas' Allen Fieldhouse today to deliver reports from Wiggins' first appearance in a Jayhawks uniform during the team's pre-season match-up against Pittsburg State.
TSN2 also delivers a string of marquee match-ups as the Jayhawks compete in the third annual Battle 4 Atlantis, an exclusive early-season tournament hosted by the Atlantis Resorts on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas, and airing Nov. 28-30 on TSN2.
Wiggins, a native of Vaughan, Ont., is the projected first overall selection in the 2014 NBA DRAFT, which will air live on TSN. He was ranked #1 on ESPN's 2014 NBA Mock Draft and was also the subject of a recent cover profile by Sports Illustrated, an unprecedented honour for a Canadian basketball player.
The highly-touted guard brings his game to the NCAA this season after choosing to join the Kansas Jayhawks, who tied for the top spot on the Big 12 Conference pre-season coaches' poll. Winners of nine consecutive Big 12 Conference regular-season championships, the Kansas Jayhawks are perennial national championship contenders.
TSN is also the official Canadian broadcaster of NCAA® MARCH MADNESS®, and will offer wall-to-wall coverage of the tournament from the opening round tipoff on March 18 all the way to the championship game on April 7, 2014, live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
