WINDSOR, ON, July 9, 2013 /CNW/ - On June 28, 2013 members of the Windsor RCMP concluded an investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products in the Windsor area. As a result of the investigation a Windsor man and woman were arrested and are currently facing charges under the Excise Act 2001.
During the course of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a convenience store located on Westcott Street in Windsor. Seized were 220 cartons of illegal cigarettes, a vehicle and approximately $6,000.00 in cash.

Hanzel, Diana (Age 41)
Hanzel, Ali Gias (Age 42)
The accused in the matter are scheduled to appear in Windsor Provincial court on August 5, 2013.
"The trade in illicit tobacco is a burden on all Canadians. Contraband tobacco presents a serious threat to public safety in Canada by contributing to the growth of organized crime", stated Inspector Serge Cote, Officer in Charge of Windsor Detachment. "The RCMP is committed to targeting this type of crime to ensure communities remain safe.
