TORONTO, Sept.19, 2014 /CNW/ - A consumer contest offering wine lovers a chance to Win a Long Weekend for Two in Berlin and a draw amongst restaurants and retailers participating in the 2014 edition of the "31 days of German Riesling" promotion came to a close this week as the winners were selected.
Chosen at random from over 24,000 entries, the consumer winner of Long weekend for Two in Berlin Prize, is Mr. Jeremy Samson of Quebec city. Mr. Samson enjoyed a glass of Heitlinger Riesling at the Savini Resto-Bar Vinothèque in Quebec city this July. Thrilled to learn of his prize win, Mr. Samson indicated: "Thanks to Heitlinger that produces an exceptional Riesling, easy to drink, I was given the chance to travel to Germany, to Berlin. Thank you to Wines of Germany for the opportunity!" Mr. Samson will be off to Berlin soon where he and a friend will be able to enjoy a glass of German Riesling in Europe's hippest and liveliest capital!
Sommelier Lorie O'Sullivan of One Room at the Fifth, and currently with TOCA restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the Air Canada Centre's Platinum Club in Toronto, was drawn as winner of the licensee prize – winning the opportunity to participate in the Sommelier Spring Class in Germany in April 2015. This trip brings together young sommeliers and wine professionals from all over the world for one week of tastings, visits to wineries and dinners with winery principals.
According to Lorie: "I can tell you that the 31 days of German Riesling program was a success this summer and that the Leitz Out Riesling was a hit with our guests -- especially with those who thought they didn't like Riesling."
Congratulations to both our winners!
The 31 days of German Riesling wine promotion was held during the months of July and August at nearly 60 restaurant and retailer locations across Canada, part of Wines of Germany's worldwide drive to promote Riesling. Many restaurants reported an increase in German Riesling sales between 15% and 150% compared to the previous years.
