Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Western Economic Diversification Canada honoured!
OTTAWA, May 9, 2013 /CNW/ - The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada1) and the U.K.-based Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), are pleased to announce Roch Huppé, Chief Financial Officer, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Jim Saunderson, Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Management and Chief Financial Officer, Western Economic Diversification Canada, as this year's recipients of the Financial Leadership (CFO) Award.
Each winner received an award for their contributions to financial management within the Canadian Government at a dinner last night, sponsored by the Association of Canadian Financial Officers and PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada. A $1,000 donation was also made in each recipient's name to the charity of their choice. Roch Huppé chose to make a donation to the CHEO Foundation at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Jim Saunderson chose to make his donation to the Rotary International PolioPlus Fund.
"The Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector highlights the exceptional work of those dedicated to public service. Each individual is a brilliant example of leadership and commitment to enhancing management and comptrollership within the federal government," said Joy Thomas, MBA, FCMA, C.Dir., executive vice-president, CPA Canada. "These two winners, along with their fellow nominees, deserve much recognition and applaud for their commitment to their field. Congratulations!"
Also honoured was Richard J. Neville, FCPA, FCA, former Deputy Comptroller General of Canada and former Vice President of Finance and Administration / Chief Financial Officer of the Royal Canadian Mint, who received the CMA-CIPFA Lifetime Achievement Award.
"The Lifetime Achievement Award honours an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to comptrollership in the public sector throughout a long and dedicated career," said Steve Freer, CIPFA's Chief Executive. "It is difficult to imagine a better example of this than Richard. With a career spanning more than 40 years, his commitment to Canada's public services throughout a distinguished professional life is a testament to continual improvement and innovation, and remarkable loyalty and dedication."
Recent CMA, PFA Program graduates were also honoured for their dedication to career progression and personal growth.
