Winning Men's Basketball Program Seeking New Head Coach: Champlain Cavaliers'
Continue Striving for Excellence
SAINT-LAMBERT, QC, May 13 /CNW Telbec/ - After 13 years as head coach of Champlain College Saint-Lambert's Men's Basketball team, John Dangelas has decided to step aside from the Cavalier program to pursue new challenges as assistant coach of the McGill University Men's Basketball team. The Champlain Cavaliers have started the search for a new coach who will uphold Champlain College's tradition of academic and athletic excellence and continue building on the team's successes.
During his tenure in one of the best and most consistent college basketball programs in Quebec and in Canada, John Dangelas led the team to 13 winning seasons, ten provincial medals and three medals at the national level. Moreover, several of the players who benefited from his excellent coaching have now moved on to play basketball in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Champlain College and the Cavaliers thank Coach Dangelas for his commitment, over more than a decade, to the college, the program and the athletes, and wish him every success in the future.
"I am confident that we will continue to offer the finest program possible. We will build on the tremendous foundation that is already in place and further develop a very strong, cohesive team," said Campus Director, Donald Shewan. "Men's basketball at Champlain has a well-established reputation for excellence. It is grounded in the vision of a true student-athlete who excels both in sports and at school," he added.
At Champlain College, students are provided with a program that closely links sports and academic studies. Victories on the court and academic successes are equally valued. The staff and faculty take as much satisfaction in seeing their student-athletes win on the court as they do in seeing them succeed at their studies. This favourable environment provides students with the best possible chance of attaining their academic and athletic objectives, while maintaining a healthy balance in their lives.
A selection committee has been formed to identify the new head coach for the Cavalier Men's Basketball program.
