Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) Commends the Governments of Canada and
Manitoba on New Measures to Attract Investment and Boost Trade

WINNIPEG , Oct. 8 /CNW/ - Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. commends the Governments of Canada and Manitoba on new measures announced today.

"We applaud The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, and Gary Doer, Manitoba Premier on implementing measures to position us in the global market", said Barry Rempel , President & CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. He added, "Foreign trade zones have proven themselves to boost trade and attract investment. These steps recognize our need to be globally competitive and complement the positioning of Winnipeg as a global centre of excellence for distribution and logistics."

Two new pilot projects were announced. The first project will establish a task force to provide simplified one-stop shopping for businesses interacting with CentrePort Canada . The second project will raise awareness of policies supporting international trade, including Foreign Trade Zone type programs.

Winnipeg Airports Authority is a non-share capital corporation responsible for the management and operation of Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and affiliate businesses. All surplus revenue over expenses is reinvested by WAA back into the community, primarily through airport development projects. WAA is self sufficient with taxpayers not directly involved in financing airport site redevelopment which is being paid through Airport Improvement Fees (AIF).
