Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park (50 per cent), Regina's Douglas Park (47 per cent) and Kinsmen Park in Saskatoon (29 per cent) named top destinations for local outdoor dining this summer
The President's Choice® team asks Prairie residents to expect more from their al fresco dining experiences
WINNIPEG, June 30, 2015 /CNW/ - (TSX:L) – Following one of the harshest winters on record, the President's Choice® brand is celebrating the joy of summer by sharing delicious al fresco-inspired recipes with Canadians. The mouth-watering, warm-weather recipes are inspired by outdoor dining destinations and popular summer food items. With barbeque season in full swing, it's no surprise that when the President's Choice® team asked Saskatchewaners and Manitobans what foods they were looking forward to indulging in this summer they said juicy beef burgers (84 per cent and 77 per cent, respectively), velvety ice cream (64 and 63 per cent), fresh fruit (60 and 58 per cent) and crisp salads (60 and 54 per cent).
When it comes to where Prairie residents love to dine under the sun and stars this summer, home is certainly the most popular option, with more than 70 per cent in Saskatchewan and Manitoba preferring their own backyard. In Saskatchewan, campgrounds are the distant next choice (35 per cent), while Manitobans ranked the cottage second best (41 per cent).
"We are lucky to live in such a beautiful country with a wealth of outdoor dining locations, from provincial parks to cottages to our own backyards," said President's Choice® executive chef Tom Filippou. "Our President's Choice® team of chefs have developed the perfect al fresco recipes, and have paired them to complement these fantastic dining spots from coast-to-coast."
The help Canadians get more out of summer, the President's Choice® team surveyed residents of Winnipeg, Regina and Saskatoon to help determine their top outdoor dining destinations.
Assiniboine Park took the lead among Winnipeggers (50 per cent), followed by Grand Beach (20 per cent), Birds Hill Provincial Park (18 per cent), Kildonan Park (10 per cent) and Kings Park (3 per cent). In Regina, Douglas Park came out on top with 47 per cent of the vote, with Lakewood (27 per cent), A.E. Wilson Park (17 per cent), Les Sherman Park (7 per cent) and Harding Park (2 per cent) rounding out the list. For residents of Saskatoon, the winner was Kinsmen Park (29 per cent), with Victoria Park (25 per cent) and Kiwanis Park (24 per cent) following closely behind and Rotary Park (12 per cent) and Gabriel Dumont Park (10 per cent) receiving honourable mentions.
Perfectly paired with Regina's top selection, President's Choice® chefs have created a mouth-watering Grilled Turkey Naan Sandwiches on new PC® Whole Wheat Naan Rounds Buns – perfect for a Douglas Park barbeque with family and friends.
For vegetarian diners, the Tomato, Pesto and Goat's Cheese Naan Bites are a delicious, lighter option. Laden with herbs and vegetables, including PC® Splendido Basil Pesto and PC® Grape Tomatoes, these bite-sized snacks can be enjoyed in Assiniboine Park's lush gardens.
Ideal for those young-at-heart who love playing at Kinsmen Park, President's Choice® chefs developed a Deep Dish Watermelon Ice Cream Cake, made with PC® Ice Cream Shop Flavours Watermelon Crunch Ice Cream. Cool, creamy and deliciously refreshing, this dessert is easy to serve and even easier to enjoy.
