MONTREAL, Dec. 18, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The UQAM Centre de Design has unveiled its Winter 2014 program. Shows range from an exploration of the theme of the book with La chose imprimée to the work of prolific architect Glenn Murcutt and the upcoming generation of designers.
Programming:
La chose imprimée
January 22 to 25, 2014
Organized by Judith Poirier and Angela Grauerholz
Who says that books in print are passé in our digital age? La chose imprimée takes a new look at an old technology. This research-creation project, which focuses on the book as a medium and an opportunity for experimentation, are holding an event at the UQAM Centre de Design from January 22 to 25, 2013. Four days of lectures, discussions, creative workshops, an exhibition and a book fair will allow the public to rediscover the book as a medium for creativity.
Architecture for Place
The Work of Glenn Murcutt
February 6 to April 13, 2014
Vernissage: Wednesday, February 5, at 6 pm
Curator: Börkur Bergmann
Glenn Murcutt, winner of the 2002 Pritzker Architecture Prize, is Australia's most internationally renowned architect. His prolific, consistent work clothes a high degree of complexity in apparent simplicity. Realised over a period of 40 years, it includes more than 500 designs, all built in Australia and almost exclusively residential. With rare exceptions, he designs and oversees all his own projects. This traveling exhibition, produced by Architecture Foundation Australia, presents a selection of his projects and examines his process, mainly through his drawings, essential tools of discovery. "[Architecture] is a marvellous expression of the process of discovery… It's like a scientist … who doesn't know the answer but knows the path to it… That is what I'm in it for, the joy of the path, the discovery," says Murcutt. Anthony Browell's photographs, included in the exhibition, reveal the harmony between the buildings and their natural environment, demonstrating that Murcutt's sustainable approach to architecture was well ahead of its time.
