Wish Child Andrew Ouellet to Caddy for Masters Golf Champion Mike Weir at the RBC Canada Cup
HALIFAX, July 2, 2015 /CNW/ - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Chapter, is the Charity of Choice for the 2015 Nova Scotia Open featuring the RBC Canada Cup.
The RBC Canada Cup will take place on Monday, July 6, the day after the Web.com Tour's Nova Scotia Open concludes in a Team Canada vs. Team World battle for international bragging rights. PGA TOUR star Mike Weir will captain Team Canada alongside Graham DeLaet and David Hearn against Team World's Tom Watson, Andres Gonzales, and Colt Knost. Fans will have the opportunity to see some of golf's biggest stars both in the morning pro-am and the afternoon exhibition match. Team Canada and Team World will each be joined by a top player from the Web.com Tour's Nova Scotia Open, rounding out a team of four per side.
Caddying for Mike Weir in the RBC Canada Cup pro-am and exhibition match, will be one of our very own wish children, Andrew Ouellet.
As part of the fundraising efforts of the Nova Scotia Chapter of the Children's Wish Foundation, the PGA TOUR pros have offered their caddy spots to the charity to auction off. Supporters of the charity, Paul and Marsha Sobey quickly responded and purchased the caddy spot for Mike Weir to pass along to a wish child, to be given an inside the ropes opportunity. When Andrew Ouelett, who now lives in Ottawa, received the call, he quickly booked a flight to come back to Nova Scotia for a chance of a life time to caddy for Mike Weir.
"When I was in grade 12, I was diagnosed with cancer. A lot of people would say that being in a situation like this one, it would be the most difficult times in one's life. However, I didn't think so" said Ouellet. "With my family and friends around me, the incredible doctors and nurses, and the help of the Children's Wish Foundation, the whole journey felt effortless thanks to all the support and positivity I received. That is certainly a time period I will never forget. I decided to ask for a golf membership for my dad and I at our local golf club, which the Children's Wish Foundation granted and then added on some very nice new Titleist clubs, a bag, shoes, and a whole bunch of other things golf related. Overall, that was definitely one of my most memorable summers. "
