Witness the Comeback of a Town: IBC Documentary and "Slider" Photos Show Rebuild of Goderich on Tornado Anniversary
TORONTO, Aug. 21, 2012 /CNW/ - One year ago, on Sunday, August 21st, 2011, an F3 tornado hit Goderich Ontario, severely damaging the historic downtown and homes in the surrounding area. Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has captured the rising of the community through video and photos.
The documentary shows residents recalling their insurance experiences and how a resilient community has rebuilt itself. Local government and business leaders discuss the various ways the town has come together to rethink, re-plan and regenerate the new downtown core.
Together with the short documentary, IBC created a series of interactive sliders to show the damage done on that day. As the photos progress you can see the great strides the town has made in putting itself back together.
"We commend the residents of Goderich for their courage and commitment to rebuild the town," says Ralph Palumbo, IBC's Vice-President of Ontario. "This footage shares a truly successful story of how a community can come together to start again and thrive in the face of disaster."
Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) was on the ground immediately following the tornado, deploying its Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion (CAMP) to assist residents and businesses that were affected by the tornado. The national program provides disaster victims with on-site, quick-response, insurance-related information.
