THIS VERY IMPORTANT EVENT
300 HIGH-CALIBRE SPEAKERS AND 4,000 PARTICIPANTS WILL GATHER IN MONTREAL TO DEBATE THE WORLD ENERGY SITUATION FROM SEPTEMBER 12 TO 14
MONTREAL, Sept. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The sessions of the World Energy Congress - Montréal 2010 will open in just a few days. More than ever, energy is front and centre in the news. It is increasingly clear that energy and climate-related problems and challenges are becoming more global, while awareness of these problems and a sense of urgency surrounding them have also grown internationally. A vital triennial event, the Congress is the largest international gathering devoted to all sources of energy. No fewer than 300 high-calibre speakers, 70 energy ministers and nearly 4,000 participants are expected at the Palais des congrès de Montréal from September 12 to 16. Participants who have not registered yet are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

The theme of WEC Montreal 2010, Responding now to global challenges - Energy in transition for a LIVING PLANET(R), provides a framework within which to address the four main energy challenges, one for each of the four days of the Congress: accessibility, availability, acceptability and accountability

"I am pleased to see that the Montreal Congress has attracted so much interest from key players in the industry. I firmly believe that by bringing the most influential authorities on energy together in Montreal we can help bring about concrete solutions to address the increasingly pressing concerns of populations and governments in terms of future energy demand, and the capacity to meet that demand, while respecting the principles of sustainable development and new worldwide environmental standards," noted Stéphane Bertrand, Executive Director of WEC Montreal 2010.
A crucial time
The Montreal Congress comes at an especially favourable time for new thinking on energy. Two months after the G8 and G20 meetings, where energy was one of main topics of discussion, and just two months before the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP16) in Cancun, Mexico, the Montreal Congress de facto becomes the general meeting point for all energy sector leaders. Because the Congress enjoys such strategic positioning in the global energy agenda, no fewer than 11 international organizations have chosen to hold events in conjunction with the Congress.
Canadian Energy Ministers' Roundtable
To obtain an overview of what Canadian energy policy will look like in the next few years, 12 of the 14 energy ministers will gather to discuss issues that Canada is likely to face and give their points of view on the future course of energy policy.
World Energy Council
The 21st World Energy Congress is organized by the World Energy Council (WEC). Headquartered in London, the WEC is a United Nations (UN) accredited nongovernmental organization that was founded in 1923. It brings together all stakeholders in the energy industry and has Member Committees in nearly one hundred countries. Its mission is to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people.
