AIRDRIE, AB, Dec. 2 /CNW/ - Canadian consumers have won another important victory in the battle to ensure fairness at the gas pump. Cantest Solutions Inc., a national service provider of gas pump inspection and calibration services, has become the first company in the world to offer a completely electronic fuel pump calibration process.
This advancement in technology provides Canadian consumers with the peace of mind that the evaluation and calibration of the gas pump meter are done with lab-quality precision and without the human error and in-field interference associated with other traditional calibration devices. Currently, these traditional devices are still widely used in the trade and have remained virtually unchanged over the past 100 years.
Certified by Measurement Canada, the new technology and Cantest have just received recognition as a Measurement Canada Authorized Service Provider. The President of Measurement Canada, Mr. Alan Johnson, was in Airdrie, AB on November 25th to mark this special occasion and present Cantest with their Measurement Canada Certificate of Registration.
Many readers may recall the national media coverage generated last year regarding Fairness at the Pump and Industry Canada's concerns that the consumers may not be getting everything they are paying for when filling up their vehicles.
On April 15th of this year, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, announced the introduction of the Fairness at the Pump Act. The Act would require mandatory re-inspection intervals of once every 2 years for gas pump metering equipment at all Canadian service stations.
Measurement Canada's recognition that Cantest and its technology can be used to perform inspections on its behalf marks an important milestone and moves it closer to Industry Canada's objectives contained in Bill C14.
