World Vision Asks Development Ministers to Count to 5
Concerned citizens make giant number 5 to promote child health globally
HALIFAX, April 23 /CNW/ - Local advocates, parents and children will rally at Sackville Landing this Sunday to build a giant number 5 out of baby strollers, cribs and toys. This action is part of World Vision's Five for 5 campaign to highlight the 8.8 million children who die of preventable causes each year before their fifth birthday on the eve of the G8 Development Ministers Meeting.
Canada will be on the international stage again this year as host of the G8 Summit. On Monday the international development ministers will be meeting in Halifax to finalize their plans for the G8. Prime Minister Harper and Hon. Bev Oda have said that child and maternal health will be top of the agenda for the G8. This puts the pressure on these Halifax meetings to deliver solid plans to reduce child and maternal mortality.
