World's Fastest Texters Go Thumb-to-Thumb in LG Mobile World Cup

Canada's top two texters will travel to New York City to compete for $100,000 prize

TORONTO , Dec. 16 /CNW/ - The LG Mobile World Cup will be held January 13-15th, 2010 and this year Canada's top two texters will be competing for the $100,000 cash prize. As winner and runner-up in the LG Canadian Texting Championship, the two contestants will form Team Canada and travel to New York City to show the world that Canadians have the fastest fingers.

Toronto's Kathy Spence , 17, was crowned Canada's Fastest Texter when she won the 2009 LG Canadian Texting Championship in June. Spence texted the phrase: "Of course you can say it backwards, which is Suoicodilaipxecitsiligarfilacrepus!" with the least amount of errors in the shortest time to take the title. Amy Konecnik, also 17, is a Saskatoon native and was a runner-up in the competition.

"Winning the LG Canadian Texting Championship was awesome, but New York is a whole other level," said Spence. "Part of my prize was that I got to keep the LG Keybo 2 I competed on, so I've been timing myself and practicing on that - and I think I'm ready to bring home the gold!"

The LG Mobile World Cup is an annual competition that pits the world's top texters against each other. This year, the two fastest people from 13 countries will gather in New York City's Gotham Hall to battle it out for the title of "World's Fastest Texter." The two-day competition will feature practice rounds and a Guinness World Record attempt, in addition to the competition.

"Text messaging has exploded over the past few years in Canada and is now a Global phenomenon.
