Partnership with Paws Fur Thought will see 40 Veterans receive a Service Dog
OTTAWA, July 5, 2016 /CNW/ - Wounded Warriors Canada is proud to announce a $175,000 investment in PTSD service dogs through a partnership with Paws Fur Thought. This investment ensures stable funding to Paws Fur Thought allowing them, in turn, to pair 40 Veterans with service dogs over the next three years.
Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) has witnessed the life changing benefits that properly trained certified service dogs can make in the lives of Veterans and their families, suffering with an operational stress injury. As the national leader in funding PTSD service dogs for Veterans, Wounded Warriors Canada will have funded one third of all dogs participating in the current Veterans Affairs Canada study on the efficacy of service dogs. What's more, WWC is a voting member on the Canadian General Standards Board and is looking forward to the creation of the first ever National Standard for Psychiatric Service Dogs in Canada.
Philip Ralph, National Program Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, "Wounded Warriors Canada is proud of its place as the national leader in funding the pairing of PSTD service dogs with our ill and injured Veterans. Today's announcement is intended to make some headway into addressing the backlog of individuals awaiting high quality certified service dogs that will bring about transformative change in their lives. We are proud to add Paws Fur Thought as one of our three service dog program partners."
Medric Cousineau, Co-Founder of Paws Fur Thought, commented, "Paws Fur Thought is pleased with the long term partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada. Training service dogs takes a long-term plan and commitment. This partnership allows for the execution on a go forward basis for those who have paid the price with their minds and bodies on Canada's behalf and now struggle with PTSD."
