Wounded Warriors Canada Launches 2014 Battlefield Ride
Bike Ride will honour the fallen and help the living
OTTAWA, Sept. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Wounded Warriors Canada is proud to announce the launch of the 2014 Wounded Warriors Canada Battlefield Ride. Assembling on the 5th of June as did the troops in 1944, the participants will ready themselves for an emotional ride into Juno Beach on June 6th, 2014, commemorating the 70th anniversary of D-Day. The ride will conclude ten days later with a special ceremony at Vimy Ridge.
Registration is open to 200 Canadians and will combine cycling through the rolling French countryside with the gravitas of walking in the footsteps of Canadian troops who were there before us. What's more, the participants will be riding to honour the 158 soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan and to raise awareness of the devastating impacts of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder for those who have returned from service with physical and emotional scars.
Funds raised from the bike ride will be directed towards supporting the national expansion of PTSD animal assisted therapy programs, such as MSAR's Courageous Companion Service Dog Program and Can Praxis Equine Therapy.
Wayne Johnston, Founder of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, "Not only is this ride a bucket list experience for those involved, this group of Canadians will be riding in honour of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while raising much needed funds in support of the vital programs that help those living with the physical and emotional scars of war."
Registration is now open and Canadians are encouraged to visit the website for complete information: www.bbr14.ca
About Wounded Warriors Canada:
Founded in 2006, Wounded Warriors Canada is a non-profit organization that helps Canadian Forces members - be they full time, reservists, or retired - who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada.
Through a wide range or programs and services, they help find solutions where gaps have left our soldiers in need. Currently, their primary focus is on mental health and, particularly, the staggering impact of PTSD, perpetrated by Operational Stress Injuries. Overall, however, their mandate is to help any Canadian Forces member in need as they transition to civilian life.
