Companies can win cash to reinvest in health and safety
TORONTO, May 8, 2017 /CNW/ - The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is proud to introduce a new recognition program -- the Small Business Health and Safety Leadership Awards.
The WSIB's Small Business Health and Safety Leadership Awards will recognize outstanding achievement in health and safety initiatives in businesses with fewer than 50 employees. The five areas this award will examine include: safety culture and leadership, inspections, hazard identification and control, quality of return-to-work programs and employee safety engagement survey results.
The top three small businesses will win a cash prize they can reinvest in their health and safety programs. Prizes will be awarded as follows: first place: $5,000, second place: $3,000 and third place: $2,000.
"We are very excited to shine a light on small businesses," said Elizabeth Witmer, Chair of the WSIB. "We understand the unique challenges of running a small business and the commitment required to implement a health and safety management system. And we all share a common goal -- to support occupational health and safety improvements."
Beginning today, small businesses registered with the WSIB are invited to self-nominate their company. Individuals or local associations that support small businesses may also nominate a company. Nominations are open until June 30, 2017.
The top three winners will receive special recognition in September at the WSIB Annual General Meeting in Toronto.
