WWF-Canada reacts to Ontario budget unveiled today
TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - WWF-Canada welcomes the cap-and-trade program outlined in the Ontario provincial budget unveiled today. The proposed Climate Change Mitigation and Low Carbon Economy Act is a significant and concrete step toward achieving Ontario's greenhouse gas reduction targets while strengthening the economy.
Quote from David Miller, president and CEO of WWF-Canada
"WWF-Canada is pleased to see the Ontario government's clear commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions expressed in today's budget. Thoughtful carbon pricing such as this has the potential to help Ontario and Canada become a strong leader in tackling climate change.
The cap-and-trade regulations will also generate significant revenues to fund projects and initiatives aimed to further reduce emissions. Nature conservation is an important tool for responding to the threat of climate change. WWF-Canada encourages the Ontario government to use this revenue opportunity to demonstrate that healthy nature and a strong economy go hand-in-hand."
