XM Canada Goes to S'Cool; New $100,000 Youth Instrument Fund Created to Spark
Budding Canadian Musicians
Public elementary schools now eligible for creative music program assistance
TORONTO, Nov. 3 /CNW/ - XM Canada (TSX: XSR), the country's premier digital audio entertainment and content provider, in collaboration with S'Cool Life Fund, is pleased to announce the launch of the XM Instrument Fund. As part of XM Canada's ongoing commitment to support Canada's cultural community and emerging talent, the company has dedicated $100,000 to help encourage the artistic growth of Canada's next generation of great performers and musicians.
By providing instruments, sheet music, instrument supplies, and uniforms the XM Instrument Fund was created to help support the efforts of elementary schools across the country by refreshing existing music programs and developing exciting new programming for students. Funding will be equally distributed between English and French language schools and will offer children an opportunity to benefit from their connection to music.
"Recognizing the success that S'Cool Life Fund has already achieved, we are proud to help under-funded schools across the country bring music back into children's lives," said Michael Moskowitz, President and CEO, XM Canada. "This exciting initiative further demonstrates XM Canada's passion to promote and support homegrown talent across the country."
Year after year S'Cool Life Fund supports diverse and creative projects nationwide. Since launching in 2005, S'Cool Life Fund has awarded more than $1.75 million worth of grants to help supplement DREAMS: Drama, Recreation, Extra Curricular, Music, and Sports for children in public elementary schools.
"We are thrilled to strengthen our youth initiatives and help launch the new XM Instrument Fund," said John I. Bitove, Chairman, S'Cool Life Fund. "Over the past five years we have had countless teachers ask us to help support music programs in elementary schools. This fund will be dedicated to music and children and nothing is more exciting than that. We look forward to this partnership with XM Canada as S'Cool continues to bring exciting new opportunities to students across the country."
Grant applications for the 2010/2011 school year will be available on-line and accepted until January 31, 2011; all applications will continue to be accepted through S'Cool Life Fund. Schools may apply for one grant per school per calendar year; S'Cool Life Fund applicants who have already applied for a music grant for 2011 will automatically be considered for this new funding where possible. Recipients will be selected in spring 2011.
