Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra
MONTREAL, June 14 /CNW Telbec/ - The Orchestre Métropolitain is delighted that its conductor has been named Musical Director of the prestigious Philadelphia Orchestra as of September 1st, 2010. At the end of the 2009-2010 season during which Yannick was crowned with many successes, this wonderful announcement gives the Orchestra another reason to celebrate the Maestro's career. On the eve of the 30th season's festivities, this good news can only be a good omen for the Orchestre Métropoliain's renown.
In his official announcement, Yannick Nézet-Séguin stated: "I am honoured to be named at the head of such a formidable orchestra. However, this nomination does not affect my engagement of renewing my contract with the Orchestre Métropolitain until at least 2015. Creating music with the musicians in Montreal continuously stimulates and fuels me."
The musicians, members of the Board of Trustees and staff of the Orchestra unite their voices to congratulate Yannick for this admirable nomination and share their pride of witnessing his career flourish with his exceptional talent.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin will be conducting the Orchestre Métropolitain during the 2009-2010 season's final concert - Mahler: Symphony of a Thousand. The Orchestra joins forces with National Arts Centre Orchestra to perform Mahler's Symphony No. 8 at Ottawa's Southam Hall on June 16th and 17th, and in Montreal at salle Wilfrid-Pelletier of Place des Arts on Sunday, June 20th. A spectacular and colossal event not to be missed and the perfect opportunity to applaud the young conductor in person!
