Healthy Kids Day at YMCA locations across Canada
TORONTO, April 27, 2017 /CNW/ - On April 30, 2017, YMCAs across Canada will be participating in YMCA Healthy Kids Day. The national event promotes the habits of a healthy lifestyle, and features fun activities for the entire family at YMCAs across the country. From healthy eating tips, to physical activities and games, YMCA Healthy Kids Day includes activities that are accessible, free of charge and open to the public.
In celebration of Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation, a special LocalMOTION Live! event will be held which will simulate a cross-Canada journey to discover the unique landscapes of our country. By participating in LocalMOTION Live! activities at local YMCAs, Canadians can enter to win LocalMOTION's monthly prize – one of two $1,000 VIA Rail vouchers. Additionally, every LocalMOTION Live participant is eligible for the LocalMOTION Grand Prize, a VIA Rail prize pack valued at $13,500.
The YMCA LocalMOTION Challenge is Canada 150 Signature Project that that encourages Canadians to take part in online and in-person activities themed around health and community while learning about the partnership between the YMCA and the railway companies in building our national railway. "As we celebrate Canada 150 and Healthy Kids Day, I am delighted to see the YMCA encouraging Canadians of all ages to get active within their communities by participating in the LocalMOTION Challenge," said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage. "I invite everyone to take part in the activities being offered across the country to promote the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. I hope many of you will take the Challenge!"
Annually, YMCA Healthy Kids Day draws over 30,000 participants to events at over 100 YMCA locations across the country.
Healthy Kids Day has become a wonderful way for Canada's families to support the well-being of their children, knowing they have their YMCA as a dedicated partner in helping them achieve their goals for their kids," said Peter Dinsdale, President & CEO, YMCA Canada. "This year Healthy Kids Day promises to be even more special, as we celebrate not only the continued health of our communities, but also our 150th anniversary as a nation. And through our YMCA LocalMOTION Live! events we'll all have the chance to learn about the little-known history of the YMCA and our railways in building Canada's communities.
As summer approaches, YMCA Healthy Kids Day provides a great opportunity for parents and kids alike to get active and learn more about their local YMCA. For parents coming to the Y to discover what children's activities are available now and in the coming summer months, YMCA Healthy Kids Day is the perfect place to start.
