Conservative Policy Show Made Possible by McGuinty Government Investments
MARKHAM, ON, Oct. 30 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak held a series of policy town-halls today with Conservative party insiders and boasted about their use of video-conferencing between sites.
By renting out a variety of Ontario College and University campus facilities for this show, they're helping to highlight the McGuinty government's facility renewal and technology grants.
The modern facilities and video conferencing technology that the Conservatives have used today were a direct result of McGuinty government investments:
- Ontario campuses now boast new classrooms, renovated buildings and cutting-edge computer labs
- Ontario has helped fund new computers, projectors and screens for classrooms & lecture halls. Ontario has increased dedicated funds for specialized equipment, software and electronic materials used in high-tech programs
- In Northern Ontario, the McGuinty government launched Contact North, a network of high-speed videoconferencing classrooms supported by online, real-time content that have expanded distance education opportunities in the region
The Harris-Hudak Conservative government slashed funding for post-secondary institutions by 17% during their time in office - compared to the McGuinty government, which has increased funding by more than 70% since 2003. What's more, Tim Hudak and the Conservatives have opposed the very funding for post-secondary education which helped make their video-conference possible. They oppose further facility investments at Ontario's Colleges & Universities and even voted against expanding student assistance grants.
Tim Hudak and the Conservatives were trying to showcase this weekend how modern and tech-savvy they are, but they ended up showcasing the progress made possible by the McGuinty government's commitment to post-secondary education.
