Youth Financial Literacy Week officially launches with contests
CALGARY, May 7, 2012 /CNW/ - To kick off its first annual Youth Financial Literacy Week (YFLW), Money Mentors is offering a pair of contests engaging young people in Alberta to think about their money management - now and into the future. Youth Financial Literacy Week runs from May 7 until May 11 to raise awareness about developing strong money skills with Albertan youth.
"By getting young people thinking and talking about money early, we increase the chances of successful money management as adults when debt and credit ratings really come into play," says Tracy Watson, spokesperson with Money Mentors. "Our 'Youth Financial Literacy Month' contests are designed to start the conversation among young people about planning their financial futures."
The "Tuition Contest with Money Mentors and Breakfast Television" is a chance to win one of four $1000 scholarships (two winners in Northern Alberta and two in Southern Alberta) towards tuition for students between 17 and 22 who are enrolled in post-secondary. To enter, students are asked to write a 500-word essay on how they plan to successfully manage their money during college or university.
Our Facebook contest asks students to show their creative marketing side by designing a logo and naming the YFLW campaign. Students simply need to like our Facebook page and submit their designs for a chance to win $500 and a Family Money Coaching session with Money Mentors.
