YouTube FanFest returns to Toronto on August 13
Live event at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre showcases top Canadian and global YouTube talent
TORONTO, June 21, 2016 /CNW/ - YouTube fans rejoice! On Saturday, August 13th, YouTube FanFest returns to Toronto and will welcome some of the biggest Canadian and International YouTube stars for a live showcase at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre.
The ticketed public show will allow fans to get up close and personal with their favourite YouTube stars for an evening of music, mashups, dance and more.
Last year, Toronto was host to the first YouTube FanFest in North America. The show drew an audience of 15,000+ fans, which is more than 3X the number of fans seen at previous FanFests in Asia, Australia and India.
Toronto's own YouTube superstar Lilly Singh (aka IISuperwomanII) will headline the show, alongside returning fan favourites Mike Tompkins and Humble the Poet. They will be joined this year by an incredible lineup of performers including AsapSCIENCE and musical artists Megan Nicole, Tiffany Alvord and Sam Tsui, Max Schneider and KRNFX. Dancers are also making a splash this year at FanFest, with Marquese Scott (WHZGUD2) and Poppin John ready to have the crowd up on their feet.
"Canadians are one of the world's most vibrant communities on YouTube, both in terms of the incredible talent of Canadian Creators, as well as the dedication and passion of Canadian YouTube fans," said Fabricio Dolan, Canadian Marketing Director, YouTube. "Last year's record-setting attendance for our first-ever FanFest in Toronto is a testament to the passion of our Canadian YouTube fans. This year we will showcase the incredible quality and diversity of content on the platform. Prepare to be blown away!"
This year's event will also provide a limited number of ticketholders the opportunity for a once in a lifetime meet and greet with their favourite stars the day before the show. Only ticketholders will be able to access registration for Creator meet and greets, which will be opened in the next few weeks. So make sure to grab your tickets early if you want to meet your idol!
"Canada is a hotbed of YouTube talent and we are excited to put Canadian Creators centre stage at this year's FanFest," says Sam Sebastian, General Manager of Google Canada. "Through YouTube, our Canadian Creators are entertaining, educating and engaging audiences across the globe, and we can't wait to celebrate the success of our homegrown YouTube talent."
The show will be hosted by Lauren Toyota, who is well-known to Canadians as a former MuchMusic VJ and host, and who has worked full-time as a YouTube Creator for the past few years, co-hosting her channel Hot for Food. Lauren will be joined by YouTube sensation Eva Gutowski of My Life as Eva, a fashion, lifestyle and comedy vlogger.
YouTube FanFest in Toronto will include an incredible mix of performances featuring both superstar YouTube Creators and rising talent from Canada and across the globe. The participating Creators are among the most-watched stars on the planet, with a combined reach of 34+ million subscribers, and a cumulative 4.6+ billion views.
