YouTube Space Toronto opens its doors at George Brown College today
Creative industry incubator will let YouTube creators learn more about film production, collaborate with others, and create more ambitious & innovative video content
TORONTO, April 27, 2016 /CNW/ - Today we officially open the doors to YouTube Space Toronto to supercharge one of the largest creator communities in North America. Located at George Brown College's Centre for Arts, Design & Information Technology, YouTube Space Toronto will allow YouTube creators to learn about video production, collaborate with other creators, and break down resource barriers that can inhibit innovation and creativity.
The Canadian creator scene is one of the world's most vibrant YouTube communities, with many of the world's top YouTube creators hailing from Canada. YouTube Space Toronto will be a creative industry incubator, offering this community of YouTube creators and the next generation of YouTube talent an opportunity to learn from industry experts, share ideas with fellow creators and create more ambitious and innovative video content for YouTube's audience of one billion people - almost one-third of all people on the Internet.
At YouTube Space Toronto, creators can:
- Learn: From training programs and workshops to master classes, there are plenty of opportunities to get hands-on experience from industry experts.
- Connect: Attend events, collaborate with creators, brainstorm ideas, and share tips and tricks to get the most out of YouTube.
- Create: This is creators' space to make videos and there are resources to help from start to finish, including areas for creative collaboration; loaner production equipment such as cameras, lights, boom microphones, and more; rotating sets and an enclosed sound stage.
"Toronto is one of the world's most vibrant YouTube communities. The YouTube Space Toronto at George Brown College is our latest effort to help support the next generation of artists, musicians and entertainers to learn, connect and create new content," said Liam Collins, Head of YouTube Spaces Americas. "A YouTube Space is much more than just a facility; it's a home away from home for creators and an environment for the community to socialize, collaborate and grow together."
"The information economy has evolved into an experience economy, where technology, art and design combine to entertain us, teach us and enrich our lives. It happens every day on YouTube, as well as in our teaching and learning at George Brown College," said Anne Sado, President of George Brown College. "With YouTube Space Toronto launching on campus, creators will not only gain access to incubator space and equipment, but will also be able to draw on the diverse expertise of our students and faculty, ranging from 3D animators to screenwriters, fashion experts to top chefs. They'll also benefit from original performing arts and media courses we're developing with YouTube."
YouTube Space Toronto is the ninth YouTube Space to open worldwide and the first in Canada, with other Spaces operating in Tokyo, Los Angeles, London, Paris, New York, Brazil, Mumbai, and Berlin. Since March 2015, creators filming in YouTube Spaces globally have produced over 10,000 videos, which have generated over 1 billion views and 70+ million hours of watchtime.
