YVR Welcomes Qantas' Return with more Seasonal Services
Qantas to fly Vancouver-Sydney during the Summer and Winter Holidays
RICHMOND, BC, Feb. 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Qantas announced today that it will return to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) with an extended 2015 seasonal schedule. This new service takes advantage of the increased travel demand during the summer and winter months between Vancouver and Sydney, Australia.
After the success of its first six direct return flights in January 2015, Qantas made the decision to resume service for the busy summer and winter holidays. The direct service proved to be popular with both Australian and Canadian passengers and this upcoming schedule will offer more choice with an increase in services from two to three flights per week.
"We are thrilled to welcome Qantas back to YVR for summer and winter service," said Craig Richmond, President and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. "Their return provides Canadian and Australian travellers with great options for vacation destinations and brings growth in tourism and economic benefits to the province."
Adding this seasonal service will bring approximately 2000 new visitors who would not have otherwise come to Vancouver. Collectively these new visitors will spend over $2.5 million dollars in the province which will in turn support 22 new jobs in British Columbia.
Qantas will operate 33 return services between Sydney and Vancouver - 13 return services in June/July, and 20 return services from mid-December to late January 2016, operated by a three-cabin, 364-seat refurbished Boeing 747 aircraft.
From June 20 to July 18, 2015, flights will depart from Sydney on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 17:05 arriving at 14:00. Flights will leave Vancouver on the same days at 21:30 and arrive in Sydney at 06:05 (+2days). The winter service will start December 12, 2015- January 25, 2016 and flights will depart from Sydney Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 19:05, arriving at 14:00. Flights will leave Vancouver on the same days at 20:00 and will arrive at 06:15 (+2days).
