1200 to attend 2015 Joint Congress on Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences in Montreal

MONTREAL, May 26, 2015 /CNW/ - Montreal, Quebec, will be the site of an unprecedented gathering of over 1200 medical imaging and radiation therapy specialists, at the 2015 Joint Congress on Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, May 28-30, 2015. They have come from all points of the globe; the United States, the United Kingdom. France, Cameroon, Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore.

The congress will be held in the Palais des congrès in old Montreal. 

Four partner organizations representing approximately 20,000 radiologists and technologists are collaborating to plan and host this unforgettable event. The congress co-hosts are:

• The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
• The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) 
• L'Ordre des technologues en imagerie médicale, en radio-oncologie et en électrophysiologie médicale du Québec (OTIMROEPMQ)
• La Société canadienne-française de radiologie (SCFR)

The congress theme, Collaborative Care – Imaging and Treatment, is reflected in an ambitious, multidisciplinary, bilingual scientific program. The theme is infused throughout 180 thought-provoking lectures and informative workshops, and further enhanced by an exhibit hall showcasing the latest trends in technology and practice for radiologists and medical radiation technologists. Congress welcome by Dr.Gaetan Barrette, Minister of Health and Social Services, and host association presidents.

Opening Plenary Lecture on patient engagement in planning patient centred care, delivered by Andre Néron. M. Néron is the Associate Director of a unique initiative of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal.  La Direction collaboration et partenariat patient was created to establish a partnership with patients that provides them with opportunities for input into the care and services they receive.

Friday May 29

An entire day of programming on topics that address all aspects of imaging and treatment using all modalities of technology as well as the unique workplace challenges for radiologists and technologists – managing sleep& stress, ethical considerations and more.

The day's climax, a plenary lecture on the risks and benefits of social media for healthcare professionals, delivered by Dr. Gerard Farrell, Associate. Professor and Director, EHealth Research Unit, Memorial University, Newfoundland...

Saturday May 30      
Starts with a fundraising fun run, the Roentgen Ramble, raising money for research and education for technologists and radiologists.

The conference closing plenary lecture addresses the complex topic of comparative and cost effectiveness related to diagnostic testing.  Speaker Dr. George Wells brings to his topic the vast experience of many varied roles in medicine over the course of his career. He is currently a professor in the Department of Epidemiology, the Community Medicine Director and Director, Cardiovascular Research Methods Centre at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Health Research Institute.
