MONTREAL, Dec. 4, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Gaz Métro today published its Sustainable Development Roadmap for the 2013-2017 horizon - A Promising Road Ahead - informed by a vision of complementary energy, by values deeply rooted in how it does business, and by discussions with many of its stakeholders. It records its achievements and presents its major energy projects.
"With this Roadmap, we want to explain where Gaz Métro is in terms of sustainable development and social responsibility and to define our orientations for the 2013-2017 horizon. It expresses our willingness to give account of our performance, to communicate our evolution and our contribution to a greener, a more equitable, and a more prosperous society," said Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro.
A rigorous analysis underpins the Sustainable Development Roadmap
To arrive at today's result, Gaz Métro first made a diagnosis of sustainable development, then met with its internal and external stakeholders. That exercise led to the identification of 19 sustainable development commitments, representing the targets set for the next five years.
Among those commitments are: to contribute to encouraging the availability of natural gas in remote regions, especially the North Shore, the last industrial region in Québec not to have access to this energy source; to measure its sustainable development performance against the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards; to participate in high potential social projects; and to communicate better with its investment community.
A promising road ahead
In recent years, Gaz Métro has capitalized on its recognized expertise as a natural gas distributor in Québec and Vermont in order to continue to grow.
That is what has brought it to be a major player in the energy market in Québec today, particularly in wind energy. Gaz Métro also wants to carve out a larger niche for natural gas as a fuel to replace diesel, and to facilitate the emergence of a renewable energy option - biomethane.
These concrete steps are milestones on its energy road, a sustainable road founded on values of performance, respect and responsibility.
Listening: At the core of a sincere and sustained dialogue
Gaz Métro met with many of its stakeholders during the course of that exercise, including its employees, customers, as well as social, environmental and economic groups. The Roadmap is intended to respond to some of their expectations, in particular, that its vision of sustainable energy development and progress on its large energy projects be shared and communicated better.
That is why Gaz Métro sees its Sustainable Development Roadmap as laying the groundwork for a sincere and sustained dialogue with its stakeholders, a dialogue that has started well and that is simply waiting to be continued.
