MONTRÉAL, July 16, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The Week-ends du monde event, presented by Loto-Québec and produced by the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD), was once again a big hit with Montrealers of all origins. The 15th edition of the free event which brings together a diversity of communities and promotes the fraternizing and sharing of different cultures, attracted nearly 85 000 festivalgoers during the four-day celebration in the heart of the brand-new Espace 67.
Through the 19 countries that were proudly represented, Week-ends du monde enabled participants to discover cultures through dance, music and food from around the world including, among others, Jamaica, Tunisia, Mexico, the Maghreb region, China, Venezuela and Colombia.
Highlights
- With its energy and water-saving initiatives, better management of waste-material sorting and putting a priority on local suppliers; the event is awaiting its certification as eco-responsible for the first time, based on the criteria standards of the BNQ-9700-253 for responsible event management. The event aims to reach level 2 of the standard;
- Espace 67 site awed regular and new visitors alike with its multi-functional ability, further enhancing the experience for visitors. Visitors were, in fact, able to enjoy the phenomenal view of the City of Montréal under the Calder sculpture in facilities that meet universal accessibility standards and replenish themselves in the charming decor of the biergarten;
- The culinary aspect of Week-ends du monde was as popular as ever with festival-goers. Place des saveurs and the concession stands of every country represented, enabled visitors to savour the traditional food fare, both locally and internationally, including Columbian, Peruvian, African, Greek and Portuguese meals.
Week-ends du monde, presented by Loto-Québec, is produced by the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau, which receives funding from the City of Montréal and Tourisme Montréal, in collaboration with Molson Coors, Coca-Cola, Eska, 96,9 CKOI, The Beat 92,5, 98,5 FM, Journal 24 heures, TV5, Parks Canada and the Montréal Impact Soccer School.
