MONTREAL, Oct. 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Liquide Canada is helping to raise the bar even higher for the care of the 400 newborns rushed to The Montreal Children's Hospital each year. The company has announced a $50,000 donation to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the new Montreal Children's Hospital currently being built on the Glen site.
The Children's NICU is already world-renowned for the sophisticated level of compassionate care delivered by neonatologists like Dr. Thérèse Perreault, Director of Newborn Medicine, but the NICU in the hospital's new facility will be a whole new ballgame.
When the new Montreal Children's Hospital opens its doors in 2015, the NICU will have 52 beds, and will be strategically located beside the birthing unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital, making the transport of premature and seriously ill newborns nearly instantaneous. The precious minutes this will save could mean the difference between life and death.
Newly-appointed President of Air Liquide Canada, Adam Peters, visited The Children's recently for a tour of the current NICU, followed by a visit to the construction site of the new Children's, where Dr. Perreault talked to him about the innovative changes the new facilities would bring.
"Air Liquide Canada is committed to giving back to the Montreal community," asserts Peters. "The needs of these tiny babies, our society's most vulnerable members, must be a top priority. After seeing the way The Children's staff operates in the current hospital and learning about the changes the new hospital will bring, we could not be prouder to support this important cause."
