OTTAWA, Jan. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the CEA Agency) and the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) invite the public to comment on the environmental assessment of the proposed Ajax Mine Project in British Columbia (B.C.), proposed by KGHM Ajax Mining Inc. (the proponent).
The CEA Agency and the EAO are seeking comments from the public on the draft Application Information Requirements / Environmental Impact Statement Guidelines (draft AIR / EIS Guidelines) document. This document describes the proposed studies, methodes and information the proponent is required to include in a future document, the Application/Environmental Impact Statement document (the Application/EIS document).
The draft AIR / EIS Guidelines document is available on the CEA Agency Web site at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca and on the EAO Web site at www.eao.gov.bc.ca. The document is also available in hard copy, by request.
The public comment period will run from January 11 to March 12, 2012. Written comments received by March 12, 2012 will be considered.
As part of this comment period, an information session is also being held on the draft AIR/EIS Guidelines document.

The cooperative environmental assessment for the proposed Project will also include future public comment periods which will be advertised in advance.
KGHM Ajax Mining Inc. is proposing to develop the Ajax Mine Project (the proposed Project), a copper-gold mine located partially within the city of Kamloops, B.C. The proposed Project has an expected mine life of 23 years with a production capacity of approximately 60,000 tonnes of mineral ore per day.
The CEA Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
