MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 19, 2018 /CNW/ - The largest Subaru ever built is big on many things, including safety, with the all-new 2019 Ascent three-row SUV earning the coveted Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for 2018.
The three-row Ascent with seating for up to eight earned "Good" ratings — the highest possible — in all six crashworthiness tests conducted by the IIHS: driver- and passenger side front small overlap; front moderate overlap; side impact; roof crush and rear. Additionally, the Ascent earned the highest possible six-point score in front crash prevention for a "Superior" crash avoidance rating, helping it earn the TSP+ award when equipped with available steering-responsive LED headlights.
"Safety isn't just something we do, it's part of everything we do," said Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) president, chairman and CEO Yasushi Enami. "This Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS for the 2019 Ascent reinforces that commitment, and I couldn't be more proud of this accomplishment."
With its standard EyeSight driver-assist system, the Ascent includes preventive safety technologies like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure and sway warning, pre-collision braking and pre-collision throttle management.
Other safety systems offered on the Ascent including Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD), which features blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking, as well as a standard rearview camera and available front-view camera and Smart Rearview Mirror.
With the all-new Ascent earning the top rating from the IIHS, the 2019 model year Subaru lineup now boasts seven TSP+ award-winners, including the Impreza sedan and five-door, Legacy, WRX, Crosstrek, Outback and Ascent, all when equipped with EyeSight and specific headlights. The all-new 2019 Forester, which is now on sale at Subaru dealers across Canada, has not yet been tested by the IIHS.
