MONTREAL, July 2, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - For the first time in its three-year history, the International Startup Festival - scheduled for July 10th to 12th, 2013 - is extending its presence in the historic Old Port of Montreal for an extra day. The Open House will be held at the Startupfest Village, an outdoor space adjacent to the Montreal Science Center, on Saturday July 13th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. While access to the festival itself is fee-based, the Open House will be accessible to the public free of charge.
About the International Startup Festival
The International Startup Festival (Startupfest) is presented by Microsoft BizSpark and Videotron Solution Affaire. Focused on innovative entrepreneurship, the event draws innovators, startups, investors and clients of the economics of innovation and new technology from around the globe. It brings together today's visionary investors and the game changing entrepreneurs of tomorrow, and is open to all interested members of the public.
This year's festival will feature big names on the startup scene, including Rahul Sood, Indiegogo's Danae Ringelmann, Brady Forest, Chris Shipley, and Dave McClure and will focus on hot sectors like mobility, gaming, and social networking as well as clean tech, education, healthcare and more. This year's theme, Startup Stories, will be supported by keynote speakers, elevator pitches, tent expositions, workshops, conferences, a $70,000 investment prize and other activities.
"An environment of entrepreneurs inspires entrepreneurship, and since the Startupfest philosophy is to promote community relations, this is our way of giving back and doing our part to foster a thriving startup ecosystem," says Philippe Telio, founder of the International Startup Festival. "We're hoping that by being plunged into a hotbed of new ideas and networking, those who attend the Open House will be inspired to join Montreal's rich entrepreneurial scene."
"Our goals include promoting entrepreneurship and the tech industry, and being there, meeting with the startups and seeing where we can help," says Microsoft Senior Technical Evangelist Marc Gagne. "One of our startups last year, Jintronix, won the top award for $50,000, so we're hoping to give a similar opportunity to another Microsoft BizSpark startup."
The Open House gives festival attendees an extra day to re-visit the tent expo, follow-up on connections and tie up loose-ends from the three-day festival. It also lets attendees connect with like-minded individuals and discover Montreal's up and coming entrepreneurial scene.
The Open House is free for all and does not require registration. To participate in the festival itself, online registration is available at www.startupfestival.com/en
