The World Champion and 2011 Female Athlete of Year is among Canada's brightest medal hopefuls
MONTREAL, April 19, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Astral Media Inc. (TSX: ACM.A ACM.B) today announced its financial support of the Canadian Freestyle Wrestling athlete Martine Dugrenier in her quest for gold at the London Olympic Games to be held from July 27 to August 12, 2012. Voted the 2011 Female Athlete of the Year at the latest Gala Sports Québec and 2010 World Champion in Moscow, Martine is among Canada's most promising medal hopefuls in London this summer.
"The relationship that unites Martine Dugrenier to Astral goes back a few years. We are very proud to announce today our financial support in the wake of her participation in the Olympics and thus show her that Astral and all of its employees are behind her," said Jacques Parisien, Astral's Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer. "On top of being an accomplished athlete and a very determined young woman, Martine has a very engaging personality and represents a deeply inspiring model for all Canadians."
"I am very pleased to have been able to count on Astral's support during my long preparation for the Olympics and having them by my side right up to my competition on August 8," said Martine Dugrenier. "Astral's financial support has enabled me to enlist people who have played a key role throughout my training and who will help me get on the plane to London in the best physical shape and state of mind ever."
Over the next few months, several radio stations from the Astral family across the country will air twenty one-minute interview segments hosted by sports commentator and author Christian Tétreault. Every week, these capsules will provide Astral Radio's 15 million listeners with the opportunity to discover Martine's journey, to better understand the challenge and discipline required to prepare for such a competition at that level, and find out more about freestyle wrestling. As well, MusiquePlus will air this spring a special report on Martine Dugrenier, bringing us behind the scenes during one of her training sessions and having us discover the role that music plays in her life and competition preparation.
Martine has had an outstanding career: Three-time World Champion (2008, 2009, and 2010); fifth in her category at the Beijing Olympic Games; eight-time Canadian Champion; and 2011 Québec Female Athlete of the Year to name just a few.
