WENDAKE, QC, Nov. 18, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard, wishes to congratulate and thank Ms. Évelyne St-Onge who was awarded, on last November 13th, an honorary doctorate by the Université du Québec à Montréal.
"Allow me to address you directly, Évelyne, a dear friend of many years to me and several Chiefs of our Assembly. Our Chiefs' Assembly congratulates you, but especially wishes to thank you.
As our women and girls endure often intolerable situations of violence and deep contempt, as discrimination and racism continue to wreak havoc on the Quebec society against a background of indifference, not to say negation, from politicians who have the obligation to combat it, thank you for your courage, for your engagement. Thank you for the numerous encounters of rapprochement and awareness-raising, thank you for the impressive number of young people that you and your colleagues have met in school communities across Quebec. I want to believe that the adults they have become remember your wisdom and the open-mindedness that you wanted to pass on to them.
On behalf of our Assembly, on behalf of our women and our girls whose cause you have been tirelessly defending for decades, we offer you, Évelyne, our heartfelt thanks and appreciation."
