Baked with love: Baking traditions at Ronald McDonald Houses® inspire new heart-shaped cookies at McDonald's® in Canada Français
A portion of the proceeds from every cookie will support families at Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms across the country
TORONTO, Oct. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - Beginning today, McDonald's Canada is giving Canadians another way to support families at Ronald McDonald House Charities® Canada (RMHC®) with their newly launched heart-shaped RMHC Cookies.
For over 30 years, RMHC volunteers and families alike have baked cookies made with love, compassion and care to help create the feeling of being "home away from home" when families can't be home. Countless recipes have been used over the years, and each batch of cookies has meant something special.
After a call went out to RMHC chapters across the country, cookie recipes and stories flooded in. It's these RMHC families, the recipes and the emotional connection they have to cookies that inspired McDonald's Canada to create special cookie recipes for Canadian families to enjoy.
Now available in participating restaurants across the country, a portion of the proceeds from every cookie sold, every day, will go directly to helping over 25,000 families a year stay close while their sick child is being treated at a nearby hospital.
And, later today at the Ronald McDonald Houses in Toronto and Montreal, Canadians will join celebrity pastry chef Anna Olson (Toronto), and former professional football player Étienne Boulay (Montreal), along with RMHC families at special bake-off events to celebrate the launch of the new RMHC Cookies.
QUOTES:
"The RMHC Cookie is shaped like a heart because RMHC is the heart of McDonald's," said Anne Parks, Director of Menu Management, McCafé. "It was very important to us that real RMHC families and volunteers shared the experience of creating this cookie with us, and we're happy to have a new menu item to support them that holds such meaning and is baked with love."
"At RMHC, cookies are a constant gift of warmth and just another way our incredible staff and devoted volunteers help make the Houses feel like home," said Cathy Loblaw, President & CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada. "The creation of RMHC Cookies was a true labour of love in support of RMHC families, and we're so excited Canadians can now share a RMHC Cookie moment with those they love, while also supporting RMHC."
"Even surrounded by your family at the Ronald McDonald House®, having a sick child in treatment can make you sad and lonely. While I was there, I started doing something I enjoy doing at home—I started baking," said Kris Trafford, a mother from Melanchtan, ON staying at RMHC Toronto. "It became my way of meeting people. It gave me purpose beyond being a mom of a sick child. It was cookie therapy."
