MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 26, 2014 /CNW/ - Soybean growers have a new option for managing weeds this spring. BASF Canada Inc. has registered OPTILL® herbicide for pre-plant use in soybeans.
OPTILL is a pre-plant soybean herbicide that offers a fast burndown and residual control of grass and broadleaf weeds. Research trials for OPTILL show excellent results on tough-to-control and glyphosate-resistant weeds, such as Canada fleabane and giant ragweed.
"OPTILL gives soybean growers a rapid pre-plant burndown as well as residual activity that will keep fields cleaner during the early stages of crop development," said Sean Chiki, Brand Manager, Corn and Soybean Herbicides at BASF. "It provides a clean start, with greater control of grasses and broadleaf weeds including glyphosate-resistant biotypes."
Tank-mixed with glyphosate, OPTILL is a premix of the active ingredients KIXOR® and imazethapyr (Group 14 and Group 2) that uses multiple modes of action to control a broad spectrum of weeds. When applied pre-plant, OPTILL can provide residual control for four to six weeks.
"The fast burndown and residual activity give growers clean fields early in the season and will help them stay clean throughout the season, even in fields with heavy crop residue," said Chiki.
