BMW brand has best-ever May while MINI reports best month ever
RICHMOND HILL, ON, June 1, 2012 /CNW/ - BMW Group Canada (BMW and MINI brands combined) reported 3,911 retails in May. This marks an increase of over 16 per cent compared to May 2011. With 14,372 units sold year-to-date, the Group reports an increase of nearly 13 per cent in year-to-date sales.

The BMW brand reported 3,203 units retailed for the month of May, for a total of 12,051 units year-to-date. This represents an increase in monthly sales volume of 14 per cent, and a year-to-date increase of 10 per cent compared to 2011. The BMW 5 Series had a strong month, up 16 per cent compared to 2011. BMW Sports Activity Vehicles also enjoyed strong sales in May, with the X1 and X3 recording increases of 153 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.
MINI.
The MINI brand reported the best month in the brand's 10-year history in Canada with 708 units retailed, representing a 28 per cent increase over May 2011. On the year, MINI has retailed a total of 2,321 units, up 30 per cent over the same period last year. Since its arrival in Canada in 2002, MINI has grown from a one-model brand to a six-model family. The new additions to the MINI line-up, the MINI Roadster, Coupe and Countryman, made a strong contribution to May's sales results. The brand's core model, the MINI Hatch, saw continued strength as well.
Motorrad.
BMW Motorrad Canada reported 280 motorcycle retails in May, an increase of 2 per cent over the May, 2011. On the year, 831 units have been retailed, marking an increase of 9 per cent over the same period last year.
"The BMW brand broke the 3,000-unit mark in monthly sales volume, and the MINI brand continues to experience double-digit growth," said Eduardo Villaverde, president and CEO, BMW Group Canada. "I believe we have reason to feel optimistic for the coming months, as well. We have spectacular new models such as the all-new 6 Series Gran Coupé making their way to Canada, and our xDrive all-wheel drive system will soon be available on our most-important model, the BMW 3 Series. With the growth in its line-up, MINI offers vehicles to a wider range of customers than ever before. The premium segment is enjoying positive growth, and the products the BMW Group has coming are certainly going to help us make an impact in that arena."
