Canada School of Public Service is on the right track when it comes to making learning activities available in both official languages Français
GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 2, 2017 /CNW/ - The Canada School of Public Service (the School) is on the right track to improve its learning activities in both official languages, according to Interim Commissioner of Official Languages Ghislaine Saikaley in her audit report released today.
The Interim Commissioner noted, however, that the School needs to provide more support to federal employees in terms of offering learning activities in both official languages across Canada, where there is sufficient demand, and in terms of its services and communications.
"Our audit found that, even though the School was in the middle of an organizational transformation, its staff had a positive attitude toward official languages," said Saikaley. "However, its obligations to federal employees were not always well understood or integrated into its governance tools."
The Interim Commissioner made five recommendations to help the School improve its compliance with the Act and address any compliance issues more promptly and effectively. Overall, the Interim Commissioner was satisfied with the measures proposed in the School's action plan to address the recommendations.
"I observed leadership and commitment from the School's senior management in terms of offering learning activities in both official languages across Canada—and not just in designated bilingual regions—where there is sufficient demand," said the Interim Commissioner.
The audit report, which includes the School's action plan, is available on the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages' website at www.officiallanguages.gc.ca.
