OTTAWA, April 25, 2016 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has taken the bold step of creating Joule — an entrepreneurial company that will help CMA members shape health care innovation in Canada.
"Joule is a critical new part of the CMA's efforts to support our members by providing physicians with cutting-edge products, services and technology that help them be more efficient and effective," said Dr. Cindy Forbes, the CMA President. "The CMA's mission is to help physicians care for patients and we do that by working to improve access to high-quality health care on behalf of physicians and their patients."
The CMA is particularly proud of the fact that Joule stands alone in Canada as the only organization designed to drive physician-led innovation and deliver physician-based solutions. The Joule mission to make it easier for physicians to be at their best will mean working closely with CMA members to identify and test products that will make it easier for them to be at their best.
"The physicians and physicians-in-training that comprise the CMA membership live and breathe innovation every day," added Dr. Forbes. "I am incredibly proud that Joule empowers members to be leaders in physician-led innovation towards physician-based solutions."
As it seeks to spur development of innovative health care solutions, Joule advises and supports physician innovators and targets potential ideas for funding. Joule has also established its own annual grant program to directly invest in physician-led innovations.
While the emphasis is supporting "made-in Canada" health care innovation, Joule will also form strategic alliances to partner or acquire the best innovative products worldwide to improve health care right here at home. Products like those CMA members already receive through Joule such as our flagship journal, CMAJ, Physician Leadership Institute courses and clinical resources like DynaMed Plus, RxTx Mobile and Clinical Key.
The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is the national voice of Canadian physicians. Founded in 1867, the CMA is a voluntary professional organization representing more than 83,000 of Canada's physicians and comprising 12 provincial and territorial medical associations and 60 national medical organizations. CMA's mission is helping physicians care for patients. The CMA will be the leader in engaging and serving physicians and be the national voice for the highest standards for health and health care.
