Husqvarna Canada's snow tools help Canadians tackle and even embrace winters
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - As the temperature drops and leaves continue to fall, Canadians are already preparing for the winter ahead. But it's not all bleak, according to a recent survey – in fact, 42 per cent of Canadians actually see winter as making up a component of the national identity.1 Not surprisingly, residents of British Columbia are most likely to be indifferent to Canadian winters, given the province's milder climate year-round.
"Recent Canadian winters have been harsh in terms of precipitation levels, unexpected snow storms and even the duration of the season," says Dr. Bell, Professor Emeritus and former Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University. "With extreme weather patterns - a hallmark of global climate change – becoming more common, and with large numbers of baby boomers entering their senior years, it is more and more important for Canadians, especially in regions with cold and long winters, to be properly equipped to tackle the harsh weather we have now come to expect across the country."
When it comes to the impact of winter on the collective national identity, nearly 4 in 10 Canadians surveyed admitted that despite the sometimes harsh weather, they wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Interestingly, Canadian men (35 per cent) are significantly more likely to feel patriotic about Canadian winters than women (28 per cent).
"We know that there is a lot to love about Canadian winters – spending time with loved ones indoors, winter sports and playing in fresh snow, to name a few," says Michelle Sordi, Husqvarna Canada. "But given the harshness of this past winter, we know that some Canadians have come to dread the maintenance that comes with the winter season. Our high quality tools are expertly crafted to make snow removal easy, so Canadians can focus on their favourite winter pastimes."
