MONTREAL, Sept. 24, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The CEDEC Small Business Support Network (SBSN), a project of the Community Economic Development and Employability Corporation (CEDEC) is thrilled to announce the return of its "Love Your Local Business" contest to the Quebec stage. Designed to support and recognize small business owners in Quebec, the contest includes three stages, culminating in a celebratory gala at Centre Mont-Royal on November 21.
Contestants are asked to register by creating a video and uploading it to the Love Your Local Business contest website (www.loveyourlocalbusiness.ca) from September 4 - 30. Voting will be open to the public from October 1-31, and five finalists will be chosen based on the highest number of votes. The top five finalists will each win a prize, including travel and accommodations to attend the finale gala. A jury panel will select one of the finalists to receive the grand prize, a 30-second television commercial to air on CBC during December 2013-January 2014.
CBC's Dragons' Den host, Dianne Buckner, will return as the gala's keynote speaker promising registrants and ticket holders a captivating and inspiring experience.
Stacey Dakin, Operations Manager at CEDEC, emphasizes the importance of networking to the contest. "The engine driving the competition will be the online voting period," explains Dakin. "Networking and promotion through social media is an important tool that is changing the corporate landscape and affecting how people market themselves. We hope our contestants will get creative and use this opportunity to promote their business to a wider audience." Tips on how to make a video can be found on the contest website, www.loveyourlocalbusiness.ca.
The five finalists will need to travel to Montreal in November to present their business to the jury panel, which includes Michael Sochaczevski from The Suburban, Yona Shtern, founder of Beyond the Rack and David Blair, CBC Radio's national morning business reporter.
CBC Quebec, primary sponsor in 2012, is onboard once more alongside The Suburban and Publikit, all eager to witness the talent sure to emerge. "We all know small business is an important part of a vibrant community -- whether it's your corner depanneur, coffee shop or tourism cooperative," says Shelagh Kinch, Managing Director, CBC Quebec. "By supporting the Love Your Local Business Contest, CBC Quebec can help promote these entrepreneurs to a wider audience."
