Choosing Wisely Canada National Meeting 2019
MONTRÉAL, May 27, 2019 /CNW/ - When it comes to overdiagnosis and overuse, we can make a difference! For the past five years, the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign In the past five years, Choosing Wisely Canada has created a movement by encouraging clinicians and patients to engage in conversations about the overuse Today, Choosing Wisely Canada holds its fourth National Meeting, organized in collaboration with the Quebec Medical Association (QMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) in Montreal, to introduce the latest developments in reducing overuse.
Several projects and strategies have been developed by clinician-led teams across the country including: Better shared decision‑making with patients, appropriate use of antibiotics, reduction of unnecessary tests, deprescribing and the appropriate use of PPIs and statins, more targeted approach to screening and periodic medical visits, and increased use of decision-making tools.
The National Meeting provides a unique opportunity to showcase these exciting innovations with clinicians, patients, researchers and system leaders from coast-to-coast who are dedicated to reducing overuse.
"Choosing Wisely Canada is delighted to be holding our fourth annual National Meeting in Montreal," stated Dr. Wendy Levinson, Chair, Choosing Wisely Canada. "This meeting also marks the five year anniversary of the campaign and I am excited to celebrate this milestone with the over 350 clinicians, students, system leaders and patients participating in the meeting. The National Meeting offers an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of our community to date and work together to advance our shared commitment to reducing overuse,"
And this is just the beginning—we need to continue educating physicians, patients, decision makers and managers. Too many people still see overuse as a way to save money or lower the cost of our healthcare system, when it's actually an investment in high-quality care that will lead to improved access and better health for the population.
